Blog Proj Week 1

For this project I decided to follow the Walt Disney Animation Studios. Not a traditional “product,” but it is something I’m passionate about and I wondered what they were doing to communicate with super fans, like me. My initial plan was simply to follow them on Facebook, Instagram and X. I personally don’t use TikTok so I won’t be able to address Disney’s engagement on that platform. But from what I have seen from the others, Disney is likely very engaged there too, trying to reach everyone, wherever they are. For this initial blog post, I simply looked at engagement numbers overall. It looks like on Instagram, the animation studio has posted almost 3,000 times and has over 4.5 million followers. It also already has over 3 million threads, a feature X just rolled out in July. On X, aka Twitter, the studio has only 3.6 million followers and has been active on the platform since 2009. But on Facebook they have over 12 million followers with over 12 million likes. This makes me wonder if there are just more people on Facebook overall or maybe the older demographic that uses FB also has a nostalgia for the old Disney animated movies? I guess I will find out in the weeks to come as I dig deeper into these social accounts.
