After looking at these three platforms for several weeks it dawned on me: these are all the same content! It was a huge ah ha moment. One social media team is creating content for multiple platforms to engage as many people as possible. Meeting people where they are, like I mentioned in week one! What makes each platform different is the community of followers. Not everyone follows the same content on every platform and someone people use only one platform, like my grandmother of FB or my brother on TikTok. I also noticed that once the social media team posts, they rarely re-engage. I guess that is to be expected because this isn’t really a customer service-oriented business or product. But instead, the community does the follow up. For instance, in one IG post a follower mentions that the birds in the picture look familiar. Another user comments that the picture is from a cel from a short film that was re-used. This was a great example of the community helping each other.
Another interesting thing about this post was that after 5 days there were only 41 comments on IG. But on FB the same post has 184 shares, 18 comments moments and 1400 likes. There is obviously more engagement on FB. Maybe it’s because they have older users and this post is referencing something that is 50 years old. In fact, this might be an indication that my hypothesis about an older demographic on FB holds true!
