Shepherd University Bookstore Closure Sparks Student Concerns Amid Midterms

The article talks about the email sent to students that the school bookstore would be closed for 6 weeks while it underwent renovation. As part of the Student Center, the bookstore needed to have its sprinkler system repaired. The Assistant Vice President of Campus services let the students know that limited supplies and clothes would be sold out of a classroom. But as mid-terms were just around the corner, students seemed most concerned about access to scantrons and test booklets.

The article went on to tell the students the exact location of the temporary bookstore and its hours. The author also spoke to a number of students who were frustrated the timing, location and content of the temporary store. One student thought ahead and bought a number of test booklets because she knew they would need them for her history class. The article wrapped up by announcing the reopen date for the improved bookstore.

SGA RECAP: Shepherd receives $30 million state grant, new multipurpose building to replace Rams Den

This article announced the universities plan to construct a new multipurpose building. It will take over a year to complete, is scheduled to open June 2026, and will cost $30 million. The new building, paid for by a West Virginia State grant, will house a new dining hall as a replacement for the Rams den and include professor’s offices and new locker rooms for athletes. It was important to point out that the funds came from a grant rather than using tuition or fees.

The Student Government also explained that “For every single square foot of dining there is three and a half feet for athletics.” In addition, to the multipurpose building construction, some of the funds will also be used to repair campus housing and constriction of other new buildings.
