OPINION: My Take on the Best Espresso in Shepherdstown, Ranked

Social Media Editor Liz Walsh wrote an article about the best espresso in Shepherdstown, West Virginia. She prefaced her review by saying she prefers her coffee “more acidic, slightly bitter with a hint of sweetness in the aftertaste,” so all cafes were judged accordingly.

Walsh tasted and compared five local coffee shops in the college town. The storefronts included: MJ’s on German DeliCafe, Little Brick Coffee, Bistro 112, Lost Dog Coffee Fine Arts Drink Emporium, Sweet Shop Bakery.  MJs was the cheapest at $3. All the rest were $4 a cup.

Walsh doesn’t pick a winner or put the stores in order of best to worst. Two shops are definitely at the bottom of the list – Lost Dog and Sweet Shop. Bistro 112, described as a French restaurant with “exquisite atmosphere,” doesn’t sound like the place the average college kid looking for a quick jolt would go. So that leaves MJs and Little Brick, which both sound like the perfect cup of Joe for a college student looking for a tasty espresso.
